Teaching the Values of Money Around the World

My son came home from school today. They are learning about the different kinds of money all over the world. He said he needed some help with foreign currency exchange. He could not understand how the market valued the money. I was not sure that I could help him. I told him to go outside and play with his friends for awhile I would have to do some research. Now that I have read how it is done I do understand it, but I am not sure I will be able to explain it to him. It seems awfully complicated for a 12 year old.
