To answer your question, the public option (actually I prefer Single Payer) will help American businesses be more competitive with other industrialized nations because it allows businesses to focus on their main businesses — not health and physical fitness articles care. G.M. is not in the health care businesses & my employers are not in the health care businesses, why are they involved in designing health care plans for their employees at all? They should pay taxes to support health care for their employees and shouldn’t do anything more than that. American businesses are saddled with heavy burden to provide health care to their employees.
German companies do exactly that and they are very competitive globally. Germany is a net exporter and has budget surplus unlike the U.S. German employees have much more choices, much better benefits at a lower cost than American workers. The thought of declaring bankruptcy due to health care problems is non-existent in Germany which is sadly a reality in the U.S.
