Ringtones Are Different Today Than They Were in the 50s

I remember how the phone service worked out in the rural parts of the country back in the 50s. We often had a party line, which meant that several families shared the same phone line. We were each assigned unique Ringtones so that when the phone rang, every family knew who the call was going to. The system worked pretty well except for the nosy neighbors who insisted on listening in to sometimes very private conversations. We’ve come so far since then. Now, everyone in the family can have his own personal cell phone and unique ringtone, but no one else can listen in unless invited. That’s an improvement.
